Mastering the sound of the acoustic guitar, the workshop
This two-days hands-on workshop, at Michael Greenfield’s beautiful Woodnest, will give you all the necessary competence to perform the most important tests and analysis of tone wood parameters and any type of acoustic guitar. The program is designed to use theory in practice; you are encouraged to bring a guitar and wood samples with you, that you will measure with your own hands under my supervision during the workshop; to get a complete technical sheet of a reference instrument, and to keep a reference tone wood sample for the database that you will build in your workshop. Installation and calibration of REW software on your laptop will be performed, together with the requested Umik-1 microphone.
The training will cover the main topics:
– Tone wood parameters measurement
– Frequency response measurement
– Assessment of main modes frequencies and amplitude
– Sound radiation patterns analysis
– Measurement of monopole parameters
– Visualization of Chladni patterns
– Interpretation of results and sound signature
– Redaction of a complete technical sheet
A good knowledge of the acoustic guitar behavior is requested, as described in the manual “Mastering the sound of the acoustic guitar”. Participants are invited to bring their personal Laptop computer and microphone; we suggest the model Umik-1 from MiniDSP.
The training will not cover any topic regarding the building of the instrument; please note that I will not offer you simple solutions to complex problems.
Due to the high level of interaction and training in the program, a limited number of places are available; please enquire to reserve your place.
